It is my pleasure to acknowledge and appreciate the assistance of my supervisor, Mr. Matovu Messach for his encouragement, guidance and enthusiasm that made my internship possible. He imparted his knowledge, developed my skills and assisted in transforming my attitude towards human exchange, social outreach and administration. I also thank him for his patience and effort in giving evaluation tests and providing direction and coordination in International Youth Fellowship (IYF). He identified my inaccuracies and provided technical guidance.
Through his daily lectures in both the Bible and real life experiences, I have been able to visualize my life goals and believe that it is possible to achieve them. He also encouraged me to present to fellow students lessons learnt and challenges I faced during the mind education internship program. This has built my confidence as a future leader and specialist in governance and international relations. I received continuous advice on drafting official letters and proposals which aided in improving my writing and research skills. I participated in group discussions where students shared ideas and solutions to different problems. This has enhanced communication and interpersonal skills which are vital in promoting sustainable development, peace and security in our different communities.
During my internship, I was a leader in the internship program department and a member of the performance department. In the internship program department, I drafted reports on activities done by students and assisted in assigning roles and responsibilities to interns. I edited the dream campaign proposal and wrote requisition letters to secondary schools and other authorities. I was part of the team that carried out social outreach in Sanyu babies’ home. I picked rubbish, swept the compound, washed babies’ clothes and played with them. In this internship, I got the opportunity to visit Kenya for International Youth Peace camp under the theme, “Reconciliation for peace in Kenya.” I volunteered in the program preparation and management department which was in charge of registering, orienting and controlling unnecessary movements made by participants during the four-day camp.
The mind education internship program has been so fruitful that my life has changed both spiritually and academically. One of the best lessons I learnt during this period has been the world of the heart and how it flows. I learnt that many situation, if not all, happen due to the nature of my mind. Communication and interpersonal skills were improved through continuous interaction with different people. Through mind lectures, group discussions and presentations, my confidence has been built as a leader and future leader. However like any other youth, I met challenges such as limited communication between group members which made cooperation difficult. IYF in Uganda was started by South Koreans and therefore most of the mind education specialists were mainly Koreans with English I had to strain so much to understand. During the Kenya camp, it was quite hard to adapt to new people with new cultures. However I solved these challenges through communicating and opening my heart. Persistence and resilience were contributing factors to solving these challenges as well.
For the period I spent at International Youth Fellowship as an intern, I learnt concepts that were not taught in school. Our hearts and minds are the drivers of all our actions. Through mind education, I learnt how to discover myself, control desires and communicate with others. This built my confidence and hope as a young individual. I discovered challenges both spiritual and environmental. This internship program has given me the opportunity to interact with people from different parts of the world and exchange ideas with them. I believe that if the whole world received this training, it would be a peaceful, secure and happy world.
In her own words of expression.
